How to root/un-root your Samsung galaxy y GT-S5360

Before Rooting/Unrooting

Before you root or unroot we strongly recommend that you backup contents of your phone. There are many ways to do that but we recommend these two free apps that would do great

Super Backup (for SMS, contacts and call logs)

Titanium Backup (for apps, although this app needs root permissions so you can not use this before rooting.)

We strongly recommend against using some PC based application to backup your phone.

Rooting

It’s very easy just follow these steps

  1. Download – Update.zip
  2. Copy the downloaded file to the root of your SD Card. (and remember in root directory not in some folder.)
  3. Turn off the phone.
  4. Reboot into recover mode by pressing Home button + Volume up button and Power button for simultaneously.
  5. When you are in recovery mode, select “Update from SD Card”.
  6. Now select Update.zip (the zip file you downloaded in step 1) and execute it by pressing the home button.
  7. Now your phone will be rooted after which you can select the reboot option.

And if you want to go back while in recovery mode use power button.

Easy right, now let us see how to un-root it.

Unrooting

  1. Download – Unroot.zip

And there you go you have un-rooted your phone.

We have personally tried everything mentioned here and it works but even then if you have any problem with anything just comment and we will sort it out.

No rooting does not affect anything in the phone other than giving you root access. If you describe your problem in details may be I can try to help you resolve it.

See before i rooted my phone i can use main internet but after rooting i cant use it anymore i always have to use diff browser either uc/opera….I dont know the reason but i put da whole blame on rooting

You can blame whatever you want (or whoever, and yes you can blame Obama) but as I told you earlier that rooting does not affects applications, this is just a coincidence that your browser stopped working when you rooted it. But dont be upset now you have root permissions, that means you can uninstall default apps like browser. Download some app manager that can do this for you (Titanium backup free should be able to do this, anyway you can find an app to manage other apps). So get it and reinstall your default browser.

If you need more help leave a comment.

PS : The reason I am sure rooting has nothing to do with the problem is because I have used this patch tons of times and I gave it to many of my friends and no one complained about anything. Even then if you are not convinced you know how to unroot (not recommended).

PPS : I am assuming that your phone is indeed Samsung Galaxy Y S-5360.

        Cheers,

Sorry for late reply, I was away.
Unlikely because all rooting does is give you root permission, try unrooting and then rooting again, let me know if this doesn’t help.

is this rooting process suitable for android v2.3.6

  6. pavan says:

can i install backtrack after rooting is it suitable to my rooted device please help me

    • Neal says:

you can try to but I don’t see the point it will run as an application on the phone and galaxy y is far far away from the phone on which this would run smoothly, some people might find it useful on powerful tablets but I really don’t think installing it on galaxy y will help you in any way. If you want to customize try some custom rom I have reviewed two of them here on my blog and try out xposed framework, it will give you more customizing capacities than you would ever need.
